Marketing for Authors

Audiobook Recording and Publishing for Authors

Your book deserves to be heard. Wild Iris Marketing and our Evergreen neighbor, Evergroove Studio, work together to record, mix and master your audiobook, then publish it where listeners buy audiobooks.

Two Evergreen Neighbors, One Finished Audiobook

Evergroove Studio is a professional recording, mixing and mastering studio in Evergreen, Colorado, about 45 minutes from Denver. It was founded by engineer Brad Smalling, who brings more than 30 years of audio and music experience, and its rooms are Dolby Atmos approved for mixing and mastering.

Wild Iris Marketing handles the other half: publishing the finished audiobook and helping you market it. We have worked together with Evergroove on numerous titles, so you get one smooth process instead of two separate projects to manage.

How it works

From the Recording Booth to Your Listeners

Recording at Evergroove

You read your book in a professionally designed recording room while an engineer runs the session, so you can concentrate on the reading. Narrate it yourself, or share the reading with a co-narrator.

Editing, Mixing and Mastering

Evergroove edits, mixes and masters every chapter so the sound is clean and consistent from the first page to the last, and meets the technical standards audiobook platforms require. One file for each chapter, plus opening and closing credits, ready for hand off.

The Handoff

Evergroove hands the finished audio files to Wild Iris, ready to publish. We take them and carefully ingest them into the publishing platforms, updating the metadata, artwork and author information.

Publishing on ACX, the Right Way

ACX, Amazon’s Audiobook Creation Exchange, publishes audiobooks to Audible and Amazon. It checks every file before a title goes on sale, and files that miss its technical requirements are sent back. Among other things, ACX requires:

  • MP3 files at 192 kbps and 44.1 kHz
  • Loudness between -23 and -18 dB RMS, with peaks no higher than -3 dB
  • A noise floor of -60 dB or lower
  • Room tone at the beginning and end of every file
  • One chapter per file, plus opening and closing credits and a retail sample
  • Square cover art that meets its size rules

Evergroove masters the audio to meet these standards. Wild Iris knows the publishing side. We have experience setting up the title, uploading the audio files and cover art, writing the description, and seeing the book through review and into the store.

ACX is one of several platforms we work with. We have prepared and submitted audiobooks to multiple distribution platforms.

Evergroove Studio and Wild Iris Marketing have worked together on numerous audiobooks, including titles by Jessica Stokes and Steve Physioc.

Author Jessica Stokes wearing headphones at the studio microphone

Mindy has uniquely matched my development with my businesses. As an author, she helped showcase my website and social media to help showcase my book and my writing. I am forever grateful for her ability to meet my needs. When I was ready to record my book for audible she helped me work with Evergroove Studios. Everything was smooth and supportive.

Steve Physioc recording at Evergroove Studio. His audiobooks Walks with the Wind and Beyond This World There is a World I Want were recorded at Evergroove.

Before working with Mindy my website was old and had very little traffic. Mindy took the time to update it and build a clean ad strategy both for my website and my FB author page. … I highly recommend Wild Iris for any small business trying to grow!
